DevOps End to End with GitHub Actions
Take one small web service from git push to production using GitHub Actions. You build the CI pipeline, package a Docker image, deploy to a server and to Kubernetes, manage infrastructure with Terraform, release with tags, watch the result with metrics, and finish with a complete commit-to-production pipeline. Every workflow was run for real and the page shows what it printed.
Who it is for
Developers and aspiring DevOps engineers who know git and a little Python and want to automate testing, packaging, deployment and operations with GitHub Actions.
Before you start
- Basic git (commit, branch, push, pull request)
- Basic command line and a little Python (running a script, reading a stack trace)
- A laptop that can run Docker (the setup page walks you through it); a free GitHub account is helpful but not needed for the exercises
What you will be able to do
- Write workflows with triggers, jobs, steps, matrices, caching, artifacts, secrets and environments
- Build a CI pipeline that lints, tests, audits and gates every pull request
- Build, tag, scan and publish Docker images, and share pipeline logic with reusable workflows
- Deploy automatically to a server and to Kubernetes with health checks and automatic rollback
- Manage infrastructure with Terraform in a plan-on-PR, apply-on-merge pipeline, and release with tags and promotion
- Verify deployments with metrics, get alerted, run scheduled jobs and keep workflows secure and cheap
